Tips for Installing Bathroom Tiles.

Choosing the flooring for a bathroom is a decision that many homeowners have difficulty with, mainly because there are so many options available in bathroom tiles. You have a wide choice in colors and designs and once you do make the decision, you either have to pay an installer or do the installation yourself.

While white tile are a common choice for bathroom flooring because they enhance the light and make the room seem larger, you can color coordinate the bathroom, just as you can with any other room of the home. First you have to measure the bathroom to know how much tiling your need to purchase. You do have to keep in mind that you will have broken tiles, so it is best to order a few extra, just in case this does happen. The pattern of the tile can also affect the number of tiles you need to cover the floor. You can also buy smaller tiles to provide a border around the edge or a pattern in the middle of the floor.

Shop around for the best prices. Many retail flooring outlets have sales from time to time when they only have a small number of tiles in stock and want to make room for a new shipment. You can get fantastic bargains in this way, but you do have to make sure you have enough tiles for your needs.

If you want a mosaic pattern, add white tiles to the design. This gives you a greater choice in tiles because you can buy them in varying quantities. If you have ceramic tiles on the walls of the shower, you should follow the same design in the flooring.

Whether you use the tile for the shower or the floor, you do need to have a good foundation. This foundation also needs to be smooth and free of dust and dirt. You have to prepare the mortar into which you set the tiles. It is best to only cover a small area at a time and wipe any mortar off the tiles as you go along. The process does take time because you have to allow the tiles at least 48 hours to set. You can't walk on them during this time because any movement could crack the mortar. Then you have to grout the tiles, which means filling in the cracks between them. The next step is to add a sealant and this also needs to be left to dry.
