Which of the Popular Styles of Bathroom Design is For You?

When it comes to remodeling or designing a new bathroom, there are many popular styles of bathroom design to choose from. There are traditional styles as well as luxurious and sophisticated designs for you to consider. You can have a luxury bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub or a hydrotherapy bath. There are many different styles of bathtubs to choose from to suit the size of the room as well.

The traditional style of bathroom is also known as the Edwardian or Victorian design. While you may first think this is like the bathrooms of old, the designs have come a long way. It generally refers to a bathroom where all the pieces are white, with a standard tub, toilet and sink. It is the perfect design to choose if you live in a cottage or an older home because it really fits in well with the ambiance of the home.

In the traditional bathroom, the bathtub is the central focus of the room. This is usually a clawfoot tub or a freestanding tub with a rug underneath. A sunken tub also suits this design. The faucets can be mounted on the wall or on the tub. A wide variety of colors suit this design too, such as soft tones of brown and beige. The lighting is of particular importance, as the bathroom needs to be well lit, perhaps with a chandelier. Choose an oak or cherry vanity or a pedestal style sink. Use curtains for the window dressings rather than blinds. Pictures on the walls do help to create a traditional look.

The country style design does look very nice, but it too has to suit the style of the home. Here you have floral wallpaper, and a cast iron bathtub with a canopy. Floral or plaid curtains at the windows help create the look you want to achieve. The cabinets should be made of wood, preferably beech, oak, cherry, maple and ash. The floor can be wooden, but if tiles are used they should be rustic in design. Traditional faucets are the norm. While a freestanding tub works bets, you can also have a shower stall with a curtain for privacy instead of a shower door. Wicker waste baskets add to this look.

The modern bathroom design denotes an efficient use of space. Fitted bathroom suites are very popular which combine a shower and tub in one. Wooden vanities in which the sink forms part of the countertop work well, but you can also opt for the pedestal sink. If you go with a vanity, choose a countertop that matches the color of the bathroom.  For space saving devices in a small bathroom, you can install shelving above the toilet. New toilets are smaller and are water efficient, which is important today. Faucets are usually chrome-plated as are the towel racks and accessories. Tubs in various shapes and styles are possible in such a bathroom from the traditional bathtub to a jetted tub that fits in the corner.
